What makes Uji Matcha so special?
Ideal growing conditions: The unique climate and soil conditions in the Uji region of Kyoto provide the perfect environment for growing tea bushes. Tea leaves are grown under a gazebo a few weeks before harvest, which increases their chlorophyll and amino acid content, resulting in a sweet, richer umami flavor and a more vibrant green color.
Authentic Uji matcha is carefully ground in a stone mill to a fine powder, which helps to preserve its rich color, smooth texture, and delicate flavor.
High quality standards: Uji matcha adheres to strict cultivation and processing standards, manufacturers often use only the leaves from the first harvest for the highest quality.
Premium Blend Varieties Okumidori and Asahi
Matcha A4 Uji represents the perfect harmony of two exceptional varieties: Okumidori and Asahi. This carefully crafted blend combines the best characteristics of both cultivars, creating a unique experience.
Okumidori first appears in Shizuoka in the 1970s, as a hybrid of the indigenous variety Shizuoka Zairai #16 and Yabukite. Registered in 1974 (cultivar #32), it soon gained a reputation as one of the tastiest Japanese teas. Today, it is primarily used for Gyokuro and Matcha.
Asahi, whose name means “morning sun”, contributes to the blend with its characteristic freshness, mild sweetness and elegant floral notes. This prized variety is known for its balanced taste and ability to elevate the complexity of the final product.
Growing in the shade, Matcha contains significantly more theine than other green teas and is an excellent and healthier alternative to coffee. It is rich in amino acids (especially L-theanine), which:
It quickly increases energy without nervousness, eliminates stress and promotes relaxation, improves alertness and concentration, supports cognitive functions.
Preparation: A bamboo whisk, 1.5g to 2g gram of powder (approximately 1/4 teaspoon), a Matcha bowl are required for preparation.
Pour 120 ml of water at a temperature of 50-70°C over the powder and mix quickly with a whisk until the powder is completely dissolved and foam forms on top. If you don’t drink right away, you need to stir a little before drinking to lift the powder that has settled to the bottom.
